2026 · Launch film
The Midnight RunMahindra BE 6 Formula E
Launch film for the Mahindra BE 6 Formula E Edition, directed by Dwaipayan Ray and shot entirely on Mumbai streets after midnight. Live roads, car-to-car tracking.
The brief
Mahindra wanted a launch film for the all-new BE 6 Formula E Edition. It had to carry the racing DNA in the name: raw, urban, electric.
Not a showroom turntable. A next-generation machine, shown doing what it was built to do.
The idea
Put the car in its natural habitat: the city at night.
We shot entirely on the streets of Mumbai after midnight, when the roads empty out and the BE 6 has the place to itself. Light streaks, reflections and long tracking runs carry the film. Speed, control, confidence.
The making
Everything was shot on live public roads, at night, in short windows. Every clean take meant waiting for the traffic to clear, then going.
The film is built on car-to-car tracking shots, so the DOP, the driver and the camera team had to move as one. Outside, the city was pitch dark, so we lit the cabin to look natural without losing the mood.
In post we cleaned up the plates, rotoscoped and added elements where the street didn't cooperate. Enough to keep it seamless, never enough to sand off the raw street energy.
The hard part
- Live roads. Traffic doesn't wait for a call sheet. There was almost no margin for error.
- Light. A believable cabin in near-total darkness took planning, not luck.
- One chance. Most tracking shots allowed very few retakes. Movement, framing and speed had to land together.
